How to apply drops to a cat’s eye

Hold the cat still (see “How to prepare a cat for treatments”).

This is how the drops go into the eye with the cat on its side — an insulin syringe without its needle doing duty as the dropper.

And this is the same thing with the cat on its front, held down by an owner kneeling over it.

Note how the eyelids are drawn back, so that the medicine goes under them and not down the outside. Eye ointment goes in the same way: squeeze it out of the tube, taking care NOT to touch the applicator to the eye itself.

The next picture shows how drops go into the nose: the end of the syringe, with the needle off, is pressed against the nostril.
