Don’t permit your kitten to do what is not good for
doing when it becomes the adult cat. it’s very important but it’s very easy to teach your kitten bad habits because it’s charming.
There is the classical example. Laying in you bed you move your legs. Your kitten notices these motions and prepares for jumping “as a leopard”, then it jumps. It hasn’t reached its aim. You laugh and move your legs again. The kitten makes a new attack. Soon you will laugh and your kitten will attack your legs again and again and you both will spend nice time.
But what’s the problem? The problem is that you have just tough your kitten to attack everything what is moving under the blanket. So don’t punish it if one morning you wake up crying because your adult cat bites your toe with its sharp teeth.
Feeding
The cat’s “racket” is widely spread in the whole word. Its screams early in the morning are the “gun to your head”. During many centuries they have been teaching their masters to wake up and to feed their kittens. We have been talking with people who couldn’t help themselves and kept the food for kitten at the dressing table near the bed to feed the cat without opening their eyes.
You can avoid such problem. it’s easy! it’s wonderful! It will work! Don’t feed your cat as soon as you have woken up. Inspire of that feed it just before you are leaving home and do it every day. Teach your cat that feeding is the time when you are putting the keys out of your pocket. It will not only save the early morning “racket” but also lessen the power of stress your kitten suffers being alone. Also you should feed your cat mostly with dry food and give liquid only in the evening. Using one of these ways you’ll have the opportunity to sleep.
How to look after the kitten
The best way is to begin teaching the cat to take different touches at the moment when it is laying on your knees patiently. Touch softly along its whole body towards the growing of its fur. Quick, short and sharp motions irritate most cats.
Take its paws softly in your hand, touch its tail, look at its ears and touch its lips. The secret is that you have to be quiet, to do slow motions, to speak quietly and to stop each time when the kitten begins to move with its tail or to show its irritation with some other way. Alternate such touch with systematic stroking from time to time. The case is that you must teach your cat to get used to touching to any part of its body slowly, during some days or weeks. Don’t try to reach everything at once. If you make your cat move forward too fast you’ll come to more difficult problems than those you met when you were starting your lessons.
Why do you need it? You need it because if you don’t do it you will cut its claws, treat its wounds, brush its fur, clear its ears during its whole life. And if you teach your kitten to take all these procedures quietly you’ll not have any problems while doing them. If the kitten takes them easily it will be pleasure for you and your veterinary to do them and it will not feel such strong stress, as that, which resists even the simplest procedures.
You need to teach your kitten to procedures of caring of its fur and claws. You may include such exercises into the usual regular lessons of teaching your cat to touching.
Every day during the usual petting you can carelessly push on your kittens paws for the claws to appear. After that immediately stop doing this and pet your cat and say some pleasant word to it. If the kitten is too nervous when you touch its paws you'd better teach it slower. Start with easy petting of paws as a part of usual petting. When it begins to take them easily begin to touch its toes for short periods saying more pleasant words while doing this changing the touching with petting. If you do it systematically it will help your cat to get accustomed to touching and also it will help you to get accustomed to touching your cat everywhere. As soon as you add such elements to usual petting it will take any touching easier.
This special kind of touching - touching to paws - will help your cat to be ready for cutting its claws. At the same time you should introduce combs to your cat. It is especially necessary for longhair kittens. It is possible that the fur of your pet is not so long for to be entangled but it may happen in any way and then it will be necessary to comb it.
While you’re petting your kitten, tell it how nice it is. Take the comb and one or two times caress him with its back side. Then stop the procedure and continue to pet it with your hand. If your kitten agrees with touching of comb back side try it pet with its working side. One or two light touching again and then more pleasant words. Your purpose and this moment is that your kitten perceives combing as a pleasant procedure, but not to do the whole work at a time. As soon as the kitten begins to flap the tail, stop the procedure! It is angry! Its ears and tail will tell you everything you know if you pay your attention to them.
The time when your cat is still a kitten is the best time for it to get accustomed to electric hair-drier. If the kitten takes it quietly it will be very comfortable when it becomes an adult cat. It will be easier to dry its fur after washing or after occasional falling into the wash-stand with water.
The best way to get your kitten accustomed to noise and motions made by hair-drier is to take your pet near the place where you are drying you hair. Don’t take your hair-drier towards the kitten face - it won’t like it. But if you give some tasty things to your pet while your hair-drier is on your kitten will like that device.
Another helpful way is to turn the hair-drier on in the kitchen while your kitten is eating. Not to frighten the kitten you should turn the hair-drier on in the furthest corner at first. When the kitten gets accustomed to the noise of turned on hair-drier you may turn it on closer to your pet every some days or weeks. But do it very carefully don’t hurry because if your pet gets frightened the case will be worse than it had been before. Don’t check a kitten to look how you may go, while it is not frighten. Your task is to stop the procedure just when the kitten gets frightened. In general, if you do everything in the right way you'd feel that you've done too little.
When your kitten feels itself good near the hair-drier you may put him on your knees and carefully blow on him for a short period - the airwaves must be not very strong and it must be cool. You should do this only for one or two seconds and then the calm careless and word - all these will help your kitten to relax. Increase procedure without any complications. Now his and your life is easier.
Games
The best games are those complete
the beasts' hunger of your kitten. If he runs after the ping-pong ball, attacks the dusters and so on it is wonderful. As more games you will teach your kitten when
it’s young as less of them it will have to invent because of dullness.The games he invents himself are not so pleasant for you as those you choose for
him yourselves. Kittens themselves usually invent such games as climbing up the curtains, biting the people legs or playing “hockey” with different things.
Try to avoid the games where the man meat is the victim. If the kitten jumps on your hand or arm, bites your fingers or “fights” with your foot or leg, all these games are very bad. Such game with adult cat may cause appearing of blood, so don’t teach your kitten to these games.
Using the stand for scratching
Stand for scratching must be in your house even before the appearing of kitten here. During the first months close the kitten in the separate room not to widen the bad habit to scratch things. If you set some stands for scratching near the places which your kitten would perhaps scratch (such as corners of sofas, for example) and also next the place where your kitten likes to sleep, then your new friend will do what you want. Most cats like vertical and firm stands for scratching but each rule has its exception. No matter what is the price of such stands, it is cheaper than to buy a new sofa.
