Astrology for cats
If you would rather not buy a cat in a poke, how do you choose the one that suits you and your family? How do you avoid the case where the cat gets the game and the mouse — you, that is — gets the tears, or the other way round? Why does your cat behave the way it does and not otherwise? Astrology answers all of these questions, or rather that branch of it called “astrology for cats”.
Capricorn (22 December — 20 January)

Character: stubborn, quick-witted, melancholy.
Element: earth.
Compatible signs of the zodiac: Taurus, Virgo, Leo.
The character in detail. A Capricorn cat can safely be called an artful one: it is deft, a master at dodging responsibility and extremely clever. It holds that there is nothing in this world that cannot be turned to its own advantage. Capricorn cats are ambitious. Once your cat has taken something on, it will not give up easily — be it fishing a hairpin out of the gap behind the skirting board or making friends with the dog from the flat next door.
Balanced though it generally is, a Capricorn needs the constant company of people and animals; without it, the cat sinks into depression and melancholy. It thinks rather well of itself and likes to be in charge, but once it feels properly appreciated it will be a happy cat and a loving one.
Way of life. The Capricorn cat is a moderate eater with a good metabolism. It will accept only food of high quality, but asks for nothing too exotic. Its favourite dishes served regularly are all it needs. You may be sure the plate will be licked clean — these Capricorns know how to behave at table. As they are not very active, too much food will make them fat.
Leisure matters far more to a Capricorn cat than food does; it needs a great deal of time for meditation. For all its need of company, it is inclined to solitude and often gives itself up to it, occupying your desk for hours on end and keeping you from your work, so that you end up fitting your working day around your cat’s habits rather than the other way round.
It hates change. If you decide to move the furniture, you had better clear the matter with your cat first. Give it a finger and it will take the whole arm. Let it into your bed once and it will want to spend every night there.
Personal relations. Reserved as your Capricorn cat is in showing its feelings, it can still be a kind and loving companion. It is unhappy on the bottom rung of the family ladder and will do anything to improve its social standing. It always feels senior to a newborn child and will either try to take the baby under its wing or watch it jealously if, in its opinion, the child is getting too much attention. Getting a second, younger cat in such circumstances — one your Capricorn could feel in charge of — would improve its mood a great deal.
In love, Capricorn queens are awkward. They do not like making the first move, they are incapable of love at first sight, and when they finally do bring the chosen one home, they watch suspiciously to see whether you appreciate him properly. Passionate love is unknown to Capricorn queens; this is the coldest sign of the zodiac — and the same, of course, goes for the toms.
Aquarius (21 January — 19 February)

Character: independent, temperamental, inventive.
Element: air.
Compatible signs of the zodiac: Libra, Gemini, Aries.
The character in detail. The Aquarius cat is a double nature, often at odds with itself. On the one hand it wants to be loving and affectionate; on the other, it is not above showing its claws. It will ask for milk and then sit in front of the saucer unable to make up its mind. Behaviour as unpredictable as that is of course maddening for its owner, and the cat is amused watching you lose your temper. What fun it is to be such a difficult cat, a cat who provokes — always at the centre of attention.
This is the most enterprising of cats, and the odd setback does not stop it: it intends to achieve greatness, and trifles will not get in the way. A piece of mischief it has already been punished for only becomes more attractive.
Its inventiveness takes it into the most unlikely places, where you would least expect to find it — and there it hides for hours on end, pleased that nobody can find it. So look into the crockery cupboard and the glass drainer before you leave the house.
An Aquarius has an extraordinary need for love, and if you scold it and it goes off in a huff to hide, tease its curiosity or its appetite and out it will pop, as playful as ever, as though nothing had happened.
Way of life. Left to itself the Aquarius cat is a balanced animal that rarely has silly ideas. But the moment it has an audience its behaviour turns wilful, boisterous, attention-seeking. Its tastes in food are very changeable: tomorrow it may refuse the dish it ate with pleasure today. What matters to it is not so much what it is offered as the manner of the offering. Take the trouble to hold the plate in front of it and coax it with kind words, and its appetite comes back at once.
For all the trouble it gives you, the Aquarius cat admires everything human. You may not notice it, but it does everything it can to be like you.
Personal relations. The Aquarius cat needs an owner with strong nerves, one who will not be ordered about. You cannot take it with you to visit friends or on holiday, because the mere sight of strangers alarms it and it will behave abominably, even by the standards of confirmed animal lovers. Nor does it like visitors at home: it will hiss and spit at them until they leave. And then, of course, it turns on all its charm to win back the hearts of the household. Needless to say, it always succeeds.
With children it easily turns tyrant and will not rest until everybody dances to its tune. And yet you will never be able to break off relations with this cat.
The Aquarius cat does not care to make friends with the cats next door; it will have nothing ordinary. “All cats are grey at night” is not a proverb for this one. It usually falls in love with exotic cats, or with those that can teach it something — it never hurts to add to the stock of surprises your cat still has in store for you.
Pisces (20 February — 20 March)

Character: sensitive, dreamy, ruled by instinct.
Element: water.
Compatible signs of the zodiac: Cancer, Scorpio, Virgo.
The character in detail. While still a kitten, the Pisces cat shows you its shameless nature. Gentle persuasion will get you nowhere with it; only force will. It works out its own rules and lives by them. If it has decided to spend the day out, nothing and nobody will lure it back. If it is time for a nap, it will stretch out on the dustbin or climb into an earthenware bowl without a thought for what you may have to say about it.
It happens that it falls asleep in the middle of a game, suddenly losing interest in the ball of wool it was hunting a minute ago; it falls asleep and dreams, and the game goes on in the dream, judging by the twitching of its paws. It is mild-tempered and will not be cross if you wake it. It does, however, learn from its mistakes, and next time it will find a better hiding place before it goes to sleep.
Way of life. As this cat does not like obeying rules of any kind, it will be happiest in a family with no strict order to the day, where everybody lives their own life. Sensitive as it is, it works out quickly what is good for it and what is good for you; but once it is sure of your devotion, it will try to please you in the most touching way and will make a model pupil.
Instinct lets it read human moods unerringly and answer them. If you want comfort, it will rub affectionately against your legs. If you are in the mood for fun, it will put on a show for you. It can, however, lose its sense of proportion in the middle of its tricks and go further than you would like.
Personal relations. In love the Pisces cat tends to rely on magic and other unorthodox methods; it tries to win the heart of its chosen one by telepathy and hypnosis. Sadly, these timid tactics often end with the beauty going to a more active rival.
If you took your Pisces as a kitten, it will treat you as its mother, expecting affection and comfort from you and seeing in you a playmate. It tends to concentrate all its attention and feeling on one human partner and will be jealous of your friendship with other animals or people. If anyone encroaches on its rights, this dreamy Pisces will not give way for anything. But once it is sure of your love and loyalty, it will share all its treasures with you: it will bring you a mouse or a bird it has caught in the garden as a present, and you must be delighted, so as not to hurt its feelings. God may forgive you, but a Pisces cat never will.

Character: impulsive, impatient, aggressive.
Element: fire.
Compatible signs of the zodiac: Sagittarius, Leo, Aquarius.
The character in detail. The Aries cat likes to show itself off; it always wants to be at the centre of attention and is out to impress. It likes to be admired, it is self-assured in the highest degree, and once it has taken an idea into its head it does not drop it easily. Which means that a cat like this learns tricks readily and is willing to work hard at polishing them. Not even a closed door will stop these clever cats.
All that activity gives it the appetite of a wolf, so it is no surprise that in food it puts quantity before quality. But although the Aries cat is not especially fussy, it does insist that all its food be absolutely fresh. If it is not, the cat shows its displeasure with an angry sweep of its tail, and may then sulk and even call on the neighbours to see whether they have anything better on offer.
Way of life. This cat is energetic and enterprising; it grabs at everything within reach and puts great mental and physical effort into getting what it is after. It knows exactly what it wants, and it wants it this minute! Its recklessness often leads to grief, because in going for what it wants it spares neither your china nor its own life. Beware! It is probably worth putting away anything that might suffer from your furry friend’s enthusiasm — or perhaps insuring your property against every accident at once.
A nature as stormy as the Aries cat’s needs not only a house but a garden, where it can have room to let itself go and express itself in full.
Personal relations. If you want to keep your restless cat under control, you must show it who is master in the house. At heart it respects strong, firm characters, and it will take instant and merciless advantage of any weakness you allow yourself. It loves to play with children, but it wants them to indulge its whims and fancies; it must always be the ringleader.
The Aries cat’s relations with other cats are dramatic — it very often comes home from a night out in the worst of states: hungry, dirty and scratched. It is not afraid of animals bigger than itself and will defend its territory furiously against a large fierce dog, yet it may fall head over heels for some tiny creature. In love it is a conqueror, and it gives rival toms no quarter. But once in love, it turns into a sentimental romantic.
Towards people it shows a self-interested affection. If it rubs passionately against your legs, that may mean it wants food or drink. If it performs a trick for you of its own accord, it is expecting a supplement to its supper — a treat to fortify it for the night on the roof.

Character: persistent, patient, realistic.
Element: earth.
Compatible signs of the zodiac: Virgo, Cancer, Capricorn.
The character in detail. Taurus cats differ from other cats in a great many ways: you could not call them playful, capricious or particularly athletic; they are guileless and cannot be bribed. They are stay-abeds, and there is an air of nobility about them whatever station in life they occupy. Even ordinary village cats bear the stamp of personality.
Taurus cats get into no adventures and cause no trouble. They would give anything for a quiet life! They value their property and will not share their bowl, their basket or their toys with anybody. In return, they respect the property of others. They will eat from another cat’s bowl or sleep on another cat’s blanket only in the direst need. They do not like leaving home; a car journey is sheer torment to them, and if you push a cat like this into a carrier, it will count that as treachery.
Where food is concerned, punctuality counts for more than variety. They will happily eat the same kind of cat food for days on end, provided you offer it at the same time each day.
Way of life. This patient, easy-going cat is hard to put out of temper. But if anything threatens its quiet, peaceful life, then beware. Your normally placid stay-abed can produce such a terrible, destructive fit of rage that there will be no calming it. The best tactic then is to leave the furious little devil alone until the storm blows over.
Taurus cats love to doze and to sleep during the day, and even once awake they do not like being disturbed. They can sit for hours reflecting on the meaning of life, or on the age-old question of the utter needlessness of dogs in this world. So be careful, and try not to interrupt the train of their thoughts.
Personal relations. Taurus cats are deeply attached to their owners. If a cat like this has given you its heart, it will do anything for you. It will not stop loving you even if you go away for a long time. It likes to look after children, though it sometimes gets rather carried away. So if your offspring suddenly vanishes, look in the cat basket.
A Taurus cat is happy in a small, harmonious family where nobody makes excessive demands of it. Treat it with the respect it lays claim to and it will be perfectly content.
The greatest comfort for the least effort — that is the motto of these cats. Which is why they are so constant in affairs of the heart. Once such a cat has found a suitable mate, it will be faithful for life. These cats do best with quiet companions who do not bring too much noise into their lives.

Character: inquisitive, sociable, unpredictable.
Element: air.
Compatible signs of the zodiac: Aquarius, Libra.
The character in detail. Cheerful, playful and curious one moment, reserved, hissing and unsociable the next: that is the typical Gemini cat. Nothing feline is foreign to it, and then some. It is full of curiosity, it must know everything that is going on, and it pokes its nose in everywhere.
This fidget gets everywhere; there is nothing it would not try, and it is forever making interesting discoveries. A cat like this can learn to open a door with a deft movement of the paw, say, or to break boiled eggs by pushing them off the table. These artless tricks are performed to surprise and entertain you, and the cat is loudly indignant if you scold it for them. Just try crossing it and you will be sorry! It will be more mischievous than ever: it will get under your feet so that you trip, or settle down on your new black jacket. But if it sees that you are seriously angry, it will turn on all its charm. These sociable cats purr more often and more loudly than others.
Way of life. Owners of Gemini cats know how hard these gourmets are to please. They like the menu varied and, naturally, of the highest quality. Such a cat may bolt down a helping of tuna today and turn from it in contempt tomorrow. If you ignore its refined tastes, it will pick out of the plate whatever it likes and leave the rest.
Sleep means nothing to these cats. Life is too short to spend it sleeping! So they only doze, and they do not mind being woken for a game — provided the game is worth it.
Personal relations. The Gemini cat needs close contact with a great many people — the more the better. It is a master of the first approach. It will rub affectionately against a stranger’s legs, allow a passing acquaintance to pat it, and may jump into a guest’s lap. But fond as it is of flattering people, it can tell friend from foe. If your Gemini cat gives somebody a wide berth, you may be sure that person does not like animals.
People who love their pets with all their heart would do well to get a devoted Gemini cat. There is a risk, though, that one day your cat will simply walk out of your life. For all its love of human company it is not a very good companion for other animals, and it is often bored in female company too.
When this cat does fall in love, however, it revalues everything, gives up its old habits and takes on those of its beloved — for a while, of course. The fire of love never burns very long in a Gemini’s inconstant heart, but it burns fiercely, consuming everything in its path.

Character: delicate, tidy, emotional.
Element: water.
Compatible signs of the zodiac: Pisces, Scorpio, Taurus.
The character in detail. The Cancer cat has the looks and the grace of a prima donna and the sensitivity of a seismograph. It wants to be cherished and admired. It is certain that the whole world revolves around it, and the smallest thing can upset its balance. It makes use of its delicate constitution to draw particular attention to itself. And indeed, if you do not spoil it and humour its weaknesses, it may develop a nervous illness. Cancer is a water sign, and your cat’s emotional life mirrors the smooth running of currents, the ebb and the flow. When it feels itself to be such a current, it can sit motionless for hours, like a Buddha.
The Cancer cat is a brilliant actress. If it feels the game has gone on too long, it plays complete exhaustion; but let something new catch its attention and it is instantly resurrected and off to see what it is.
These cats sense a thunderstorm coming with remarkable accuracy; in their fear they squeeze into a corner or seek refuge in your arms long before the first flash of lightning and clap of thunder.
Way of life. Cancer cats always look tired and incapable of physical effort, and they get their way by playing on your kindness and sympathy. They pretend to have no appetite and to be eating only to give you pleasure. These nervous creatures are capricious and fussy; they may refuse their food because they do not like the colour of the new plate.
It makes its bed wherever it is cleanest and warmest, and will always prefer your lap or a pile of freshly ironed shirts to its own basket. Its tidiness shows in the fact that it always sleeps in the same place. This cat is a good companion. It is not destructive and gets up to no mischief; it values your household things no less than you do yourself.
Personal relations. Even the quiet, modest Cancer cat does not want to stay in the background for ever; it likes living with a strong person. Deep down it wants its family to make its life easy and pleasant. Given that, it very soon begins to trust you and turns tender and affectionate. An adult Cancer cat taken into a new home stays reserved and unsociable for weeks and even months, but the moment it decides that you are worthy of its love, it becomes touchingly devoted and does its best to keep its whims and fancies under control.
Its relations with other cats are complicated by the fact that this delicate creature’s feelings are easily hurt and it cannot hide it. But if this cat is hard to reconcile with other cats, living with a dog is quite impossible for it, even if the dog is ready to acknowledge its superiority and take second place.
The Cancer tom is a lyrical, romantic lover, though some Cancer cats never fall in love at all, their ideals being too high for them to compromise.

Character: independent, brave, optimistic, trusting.
Element: fire.
Compatible signs of the zodiac: Aries, Sagittarius, Capricorn.
The character in detail. To be born under Leo, the “royal sign” as the astrologers call it, is good fortune even for a cat. The Leo cat, a proud and independent personality, goes through life with its head held high, taking no notice of the other mortals. It sets too much store by its own nobility to stoop to silly tricks that catch the public eye — it is sure it is at the centre of everyone’s attention anyway.
The Leo cat rarely lies about doing nothing. It loves the thrill of the hunt, but even town cats take a sober enough view of things not to waste time on a hopeless chase. Let ordinary cats wear themselves out over trifles — a royal Leo will find something worthier to do! Yet sometimes you may see it sitting for hours by the plughole in the bath, waiting for a mouse to appear out of that hole.
Way of life. The Leo cat has no doubt that it is the king of the beasts. It devotes a great deal of time to its toilet, washing and preening until its fur shines like silk. You are barely out of the room before it is admiring itself in the mirror. It loves being photographed and adores compliments. Its vanity truly knows no bounds. But all care for its appearance is forgotten if an adventure is in the offing — then it will not mind getting a little dirty, or getting into a fight.
As for its diet, its favourite dish is fresh meat, and it adores liver as well. But if you keep it waiting too long for its dinner, you will have to atone for it with a particularly choice morsel and a great deal of affection; otherwise you will be punished with His Majesty’s bad mood.
Personal relations. Never, ever be condescending to a Leo cat. This cat claims equality with you and will not forgive being patronised. What it hates even more is indifference: better to shout at it than to ignore that it is there at all.
If the Leo cat feels loved and valued, it will do anything for its human family. It is trusting and friendly and not afraid of strangers. At the same time it will defend you boldly against any danger it believes to be threatening you. So be careful about petting other people’s cats, do not start a noisy game with children in its presence and, above all, keep well away from dogs. Many a harmless little dog has been badly scratched by these jealous and aggressive lions.
The Leo cat makes many friends among females who respect its strength and have no intention of ordering it about. It does not play, it holds royal receptions; and since not every cat agrees to become its subject, it acquires no few enemies, ready to steal its glory and even the food from its plate.
If your Leo cat goes missing, do not worry — it has probably gone off in search of an extra helping of attention to its person. In personal relations it claims the lion’s share of adoration and counts the day a success if those around it have flattered its vanity properly.
Virgo (24 August — 23 September)

Character: prudent, sensitive, critical.
Element: earth.
Compatible signs of the zodiac: Capricorn, Taurus, Pisces.
The character in detail. The Virgo cat is a carping critic and something of a perfectionist. Reason and logic are stronger in it than natural instinct. It is sharply observant and calculating by nature: it sees, for instance, that you have knitting in your hands and will not be able to stroke it, so it does not even try to jump into your lap. It bites through your yarn instead. It will very soon find out where you keep the good things to eat, and will show downright human ingenuity in getting at them when nobody is looking. Get into a sealed carton of milk? Nothing easier! Pull a piece of cheese out of its cellophane wrapper? Child’s play! Of course it knows perfectly well that these good things are not meant for it, but a Virgo cat has no conscience. Scold it and it will pretend to be deaf. It will be so magnanimous as not to notice your anger until it has died down.
The one thing that can stop it on the way to its goal is danger, which it scents a mile off. Safety first — that is its motto. If it does climb a tree or take up acrobatics on the furniture, it makes sure beforehand that an accidental fall is unlikely.
Born under an earth sign, the Virgo cat loves plants, your well-tended houseplants included, and you will do well to let it keep company with them. A Virgo lives by its own rules, and if you try to impose your views on it, it will withdraw into silence, and nothing you do will draw it out again.
Way of life. Never let your cat out of your sight for long, because it uses every chance it gets to be naughty. A laid table is a temptation it cannot resist. It likes to eat the same food you eat, even if that happens to be pickled cucumbers.
A Virgo likes cleanliness and order around it. If you forget to put away a comb, a glove or a lipstick, it will hide them so well that you will never see them again. Its litter tray must be kept as clean as a hospital operating theatre, or it will find another place for the purpose — and if you happen not to like that place, you have only yourself to blame.
Personal relations. At the first meeting your Virgo will look you over critically and then feign indifference for an age, all the while watching you closely and drawing its own conclusions about you. If it decides you are worth knowing better, it will become the most affectionate cat in the house, full of charm and eager to please you.
The Virgo cat gets on tolerably well with other cats — at a distance. If it has to live in one house with other animals, its love of cleanliness and order means frequent disappointment, and then the newcomer had better not trifle with it: either it adapts to the strict Virgo or it clears off to the other end of the house.
In affairs of the heart a Virgo is unhurried and circumspect: first observation from a distance, then a hiss, then perhaps... but all in good time. A Virgo cat will not give instinct its head while its heart says nothing.
Libra (24 September — 23 October)

Character: affectionate, good-natured, indecisive.
Element: fire.
Compatible signs of the zodiac: Aquarius, Gemini.
The character in detail. A cat born under Libra considers itself a star and makes very great demands of life. A high standard of living and elegant surroundings matter a good deal to it. As it is uncommonly charming and looks lovely, life goes well and easily for it; and even when things are not going well, it rarely loses heart. It simply shifts its attention to some other desirable object and sets about getting that one.
This cat loves to be surrounded by admirers, cats or people, but only for as long as they admire it. It wants to win every heart, regardless of the looks or other merits of the hearts’ owners. Everybody likes this cat.
But all its poise deserts it when it falls in love. It forgets its good breeding entirely. It grows confused and cannot collect its thoughts, which leads to furious fights among its admirers. It keeps its distance from the field of battle, but the spectacle delights its vain little heart. That does not mean it grants its favours to the happy victor at once. Far from it! First it gives him a quick inspection. It is far too particular to go off with some old tomcat, however brilliant his victory.
Way of life. This balanced cat cannot bear conflict, likes harmony in the house and will do everything in its power to be well-behaved and to be on good terms with you. It takes great care of its own well-being and of the comfort of its surroundings, and so it always tries to be affectionate and loving, and it even comes when you call it.
This cat’s favourite occupation is watching people work. It can sit like that for hours, following your every movement and trying to grasp the sense of what you are doing. Even grown up, these cats love to play. If you do not provide it with toys of its own, it will hunt out a bunch of dried flowers or carry off the contents of your sewing basket to play with. In food this cat is unfussy and moderate; it has nothing against being offered the leftovers from your own table.
Personal relations. It builds its relations with people and with other cats on the principle of cat and mouse: today it grants them its tender love, tomorrow it is cold and distant. But this is no more than harmless flirtation. Deep in its capricious soul it always remains a loving and peaceable creature. That, together with its playfulness, makes it an ideal playmate for children, and it is usually particularly fond of them itself.
It often follows its favourite person about like a dog. It likes to sleep in a beautiful soft bed, and if you drive it away it comes straight back, whether you are lying in that bed or not. It may even feign illness, hoping that you will not then have the heart to turn it out. You are lucky if you manage to train it to sleep at the edge of the bed rather than take up the whole of your pillow.
Scorpio (24 October — 22 November)

Character: jealous, stubborn.
Element: water.
Compatible signs of the zodiac: Cancer, Pisces.
The character in detail. Cats born under Mars can show an unusual strength of character. It would be pointless to try to fob them off with anything second-rate. Only the very best will do for a Scorpio. A Scorpio loves exploring the neighbourhood and is forever poking its nose into every corner and crevice of your house. Its inventive mind can find entirely new uses for your furniture and household things. Many Scorpio cats use the window curtains as climbing apparatus, and for an afternoon rest a Scorpio may adapt the drum of the washing machine.
The Scorpio cat likes giving orders. Indulge that inclination of its, invite its friends into the house and lay on a lavish spread, and it will be perfectly happy.
It is patient and too proud to accept help. Scold it and it will sulk. It wants its share of everything — from the ham on your sandwich to a place in your new armchair. Whatever you may think of yourself, your cat knows that you are in fact its slave, and if you do not notice that, it only proves how clever your cat is.
Way of life. Your Scorpio cannot bear being shut in the house while you go shopping or off to work. It can always console itself in your absence, though, with a good television programme.
Scorpio cats are happy in the country, where they can roam in search of adventure; they are good hunters and can spend several days out of town without human help. They can stand up for themselves when they meet other animals, and will not be frightened even by a full-grown sheepdog.
Your Scorpio lives life to the full, in fact. It eats anything, and its lack of discrimination is sometimes enough to make it sick, but whatever it does, it does with a natural dignity. Even Scorpio strays are not without that dignity.
Personal relations. You cannot ignore a Scorpio cat’s love for you. Once it has let you into its heart, it will consider you its property and will constantly demand your attention. It is very jealous and will not be satisfied with occasional caresses — it wants to own you entirely. It is fond of rough games with the claws out, but once it has played its fill it becomes very affectionate.
Be prepared for your Scorpio’s love life to be a disorderly one: a scratched face, tufts of fur pulled out and torn ears are all the marks of a Scorpio cat in love. But even in that state it is able to captivate its chosen one, just as it captivated you.
Other cats look on the Scorpio as a fighter and a leader. Something of an aggressive egoist, it establishes its primacy in battle, and it always comes out of battle the winner — it is programmed for it. Best of the best, it will win the hearts of your family and your friends, and you may suddenly learn that one of them, in making a will, has named your cat as heir.
Sagittarius (23 November — 21 December)

Character: optimist, self-assured, wanderer.
Element: fire.
Compatible signs of the zodiac: Aries, Leo.
The character in detail. The Sagittarius cat is an adventurer whose spirits often soar into the clouds and who, as a consequence, often comes to grief.
An incorrigible optimist, it never learns from its mistakes; having lightheartedly written off yet another failure, it starts at once on some new risky venture. Nothing can shake its faith in itself and in what it can do.
The Sagittarius cat is no stay-at-home; it cannot bear being confined within four walls. It is not easy to keep this freedom-loving cat in a small town flat. Shut indoors all the time, it spends its surplus energy on mischief and does a great deal of damage. It will sharpen its claws on your curtains, push flowerpots off the sill and hold boxing matches with the houseplants to test their strength.
Way of life. Given how extraordinarily active this cat is, it is no surprise that it is always hungry — which does not lower its demands as to the quality of the food, provided there is enough of it. As it turns the calories straight into energy, it is not usually fat.
It cares about the quality of its bed, which should be in a quiet but easily reached place. It likes spending time near its owners, but at night it must be able to get out of the house and go roaming. Adaptable to any conditions, the restless Sagittarius cat likes to go away on holiday with you. It prefers four-star hotels, but will put up with something more modest as long as it means getting out of the house and doing some exploring. This adventurer of a cat likes taking risks, so you will do well to put wire mesh over the windows of the upper floors. Insuring it is not a bad idea either.
Personal relations. The Sagittarius cat gets on easily with anyone who does not encroach on its habits. Children like its readiness to play and its lack of any real aggression. These cats adore birds. If you want to please your cat, buy it a bird in a special “cat-proof” cage (in case of a sudden outbreak of its natural instincts).
With other cats it is friendly but somewhat distant. The calm, happy understanding that grows up between your cat and its bird is rare between it and other cats. But if it does fall in love and bring home a pretty little queen, you had better not stand in its way. Alas, this love will soon burn itself out.
The Sagittarius cat does everything it can to continue the feline line. The toms become fathers to countless kittens, and the life of a Sagittarius queen is one endless adventure, full of trysts, partings and unplanned children. There is nothing you can do about it, so it is better not to take any notice.
