How cats heal people

How, then, do cats heal? It should be said that cat therapy works on the human body in many ways at once.

When a person is with an animal, a contact of bioenergy takes place. As the owner strokes their pet, positive impulses reach their central nervous system and their mood lifts.

Thanks to the well-known feline habit of massaging a person’s body with the claws, the reflexogenic zones are stimulated — a cat’s claws work in just the way a reflexologist’s instruments do during a session of acupuncture.

A new method of treating various illnesses — cat therapy — was worked out at the London Institute of Therapeutic Methods. The luminaries of science took the question up in earnest after the institute’s pet, a cat named Martha, walked one night into the laboratory where the staff were running an experiment late into the evening.

As she passed the low-frequency current generator, every sensor suddenly went off the scale. Out of curiosity the scientists decided to measure Martha’s electromagnetic field.

Imagine their surprise when it turned out that instead of a modern and expensive generator one could safely use a cat, since she is able to produce a far stronger field.

After that the specialists decided to carry the experiment further. At the time the institute was developing a method of treating chronic inflammatory disease with low-frequency currents. Remembering how the sensors had reacted to the cat, the scientists divided their volunteer patients into two groups. One group they went on treating with low-frequency currents; for the people in the other group they set a cat on the sore place. A month later the scientists compared the results: of the patients treated with a cat, every one recovered, while in the other group only half the patients were cured.

Why is it a cat, of all creatures, that produces low-frequency currents? And how do they affect the human body? Scientists maintain that a cat produces low-frequency currents thanks to its fine, soft fur. As the animal moves, the hairs rub against one another, and that creates a powerful electric field.

As for the effect of these currents on the human body, it has now been shown that, acting on the seat of an inflammation, they kill microbes. During a session of cat therapy, moreover, tissue heals faster and its blood supply improves. Conventional medicine has been using low-frequency currents for several decades now, yet a single cat can take the place of five modern generators.

The question arises of itself: which illnesses can be treated with low-frequency currents, and with a cat in particular? After a great many experiments the specialists concluded that cat therapy works best in treating inflammation of the joints and gynaecological complaints. In the latter case it is enough to set the animal on the lower abdomen and lie there, stroking the cat, for at least twenty minutes.

In the nineteen-seventies, physicians in England and the United States working in specialist clinics for mentally retarded children carried out research into the therapeutic powers of cats. They found that cats are of serious help to people suffering from mental illness, heart disorders and brain damage, and that they even help patients recover completely from alcoholism and drug addiction.

Practically everybody knows that a cat has nine lives. But hardly anybody knows that these animals have such staying power because they can purr.

The proof of this was obtained quite recently by scientists at the Institute of Animal Communication in North Carolina, who spent several decades studying feline voices. A great many experiments established that a cat’s purring is not merely the animal talking but a powerful remedy as well, one that lets it recover its strength quickly and heal its wounds.

It has a good effect on the human body too, of course, helping a person fight off various ailments. There is a whole section of cat therapy devoted to feline purring.

The sounds the furry doctor makes are known to have a good effect on the human body and to help both prevent and treat many illnesses. Scientists hold that a cat’s purring is akin to ultrasound therapy, only the sounds these animals make have a far better effect and help both the animal itself and its owner deal with a great many complaints. Researchers have established that the range in which cats purr — from 27 to 44 hertz — strengthens the bones by 20 per cent. Feline purring also does good to the human nervous system and to a person’s state of mind. What is more, it is at sounds in exactly this range that the blood supply to the brain improves, blood pressure returns to normal and the heart rhythm steadies.

Speaking of the healing powers of cats, one cannot pass over the fact that these remarkable animals are somehow able to transform the energy of an illness. This feline talent was known to the lamas of Tibet and the sages of ancient Egypt. It was from there, incidentally, that cat therapy came to America, to Europe and then to Russia.

There is now a whole system founded on knowledge of the energy meridians of the human body and the law of the polarity of energies. Specialists who hold sessions of cat therapy by this system judge unerringly how long the cat should lie on the sore place. Doctors who have taken the special courses also know absolutely everything about the ability of cats of different breeds and colours to treat particular illnesses.

According to eastern medicine, all human illness comes from an imbalance of energy in the body. Chronic fatigue, neurasthenia, heart and kidney failure, arthritis and low blood pressure are marked by a lack of energy and belong to the illnesses of “yin”.

Strokes, heart attacks, high blood pressure, osteochondrosis and arthritis appear in people suffering from a surplus of energy. In eastern medicine such ailments are held to be illnesses of “yang”.

It should be said that a cat’s energy is very like a human being’s, and since, as we have said, these animals are able to exchange their energy with people, sessions of cat therapy carried out correctly can bring excellent results in treating the illnesses of “yin” and of “yang”.

For the illnesses of “yin” it is recommended to put the cat to the sore place so that the animal’s head is on the left of the person’s body and its hindquarters on the right. For the illnesses of “yang” the animal should be laid the other way round.

Specialists in cat therapy maintain, incidentally, that there are particular hours for treating each illness.

The stretch of time from three to five in the morning is held to be the best for treating illnesses of the lungs and of the bronchi. Complaints of the stomach and intestines respond well to therapy between five and seven in the morning. Cardiovascular disease is best treated between eleven and one, and tiredness can only be relieved in the evening.

As for how long a session of cat therapy should last, that depends on the patient’s general health, the stage of the illness, the presence of other complaints and several other things: for some people five or ten minutes are enough, while others need to keep the cat for an hour and a half or two hours.

As has been said, in cat therapy the colour and the breed of the healer matter a good deal. Black cats rid their owners of negative energy and are good at treating the illnesses of “yang”, while white ones, on the contrary, feed energy to people who suffer from a weakness of it.

Ginger cats, the specialists believe, charge their owners with positive energy. Grey animals have, in equal measure, the qualities of both black and white cats.

Fluffy cats are excellent for healing the ailments of “yin”, and short-haired ones are able to cure the illnesses of “yang”.

How do cats sense in which organ of the human body a great deal of negative energy has gathered? And why do cats need to take it in?

When something goes wrong in a person’s body, they feel pain, which is a sign that the energy potential in some part of the body has changed. It is this change of potential that the cat feels — the one mammal which, for reasons unknown even to science, takes in a certain amount of negative energy.

Some biologists suppose that it is simply vital for a cat to receive a charge of negative energy regularly.

In support of such a theory, scientists point to the fact that cats love to lie on televisions, refrigerators, working washing machines and computers — that is, on those appliances which radiate negative electromagnetic oscillations into their surroundings. And the higher the level of those oscillations, incidentally, the more pleased the cat looks.

Supporters of this theory hold that a cat’s energy system works properly when the animal has the chance to take in negative oscillations. A person, on the other hand, in order to be rid of an illness, needs to be freed of negative energy, that is, to bring their energy system into balance. And in that case a pet can be a real gift of fate to them.

It is important to know that neutered males and spayed females lose most of their powers.

Judging unerringly which part of the body carries the negative charge, the cat makes straight for the sore place, settles itself comfortably and begins taking on its charge: first it gives a massage with its claws, and then it lies or sits down on the ailing part of the body.

It should be said that during such a session of cat therapy the patient is not only freed of deformed energy fields but is treated with warmth at the same time, which is very useful in many illnesses.

In freeing its owner of negative energy, the cat helps the tissues to their proper blood supply, restores the exchange of energy in the cells, disperses internal bruising and treats renal colic, as well as knocks, injuries and so on. In some cases cat therapy proves far more effective than treatment with medicines.

So cats are drawn to negative energy; they soak it up, as it were, and then rid themselves of the surplus by means known only to them. When an owner has a great deal of negative energy, however, the cat cannot always be rid of it and often falls ill itself.

There are many known cases of pets curing their beloved owners of the gravest illnesses and then dying themselves. Working hard at healing its owner, a cat sometimes forgets to look after itself — that is, to free itself of the negative energy it has taken in — and so falls ill.

That is why specialists in pet therapy strongly advise people who use a cat for their own treatment not to abuse its powers and to give their pet time off now and then, during which the animal can recover its strength.

Nor should one forget the chief condition of all for cat therapy to work — the animal’s love for its owner and its trust in them. If the owner does not love their pet but simply uses it, the cat is unlikely to help them be rid of their ailments, because this remarkable animal is a true telepath, a living instrument of energy and information of a kind, which always catches the mood of the people around it and their true feelings towards itself. A cat cannot bear being treated as a convenience.

If the owner loves their pet, the pet will do everything it can to make the person who sincerely cares for it feel well. The statistics, incidentally, say that cat lovers go to the doctor 18 per cent less often than people who are indifferent to them.

It is worth remembering, though, that not every animal is ready to heal. Having read about the remarkable powers of cats, people often try to use the neighbours’ cats, or cats off the street, for treatment. In most cases such patients find themselves in comic and even tragic situations and, after a session of cat therapy that was forced (on the animal, of course), go to the doctor with bites and scratches from the furry healer. So a cat may be used for medical purposes only if the owner loves the pet and the pet, returning that love, takes the initiative itself.

On no account should a cat be made to heal if it is not ready to. As has been said, this animal does not need to receive negative energy constantly, but only from time to time.

It is bad for a cat when there is not enough negative energy, but it is just as bad for it when there is too much of it. That is exactly why the furry healer knows precisely when it must stop “recharging”.

Other people’s animals should not be pressed into service for your health. Many cats are mistrustful of strangers and refuse to treat them.
